INTRODUCTION
In this site I aim to present and explain several forms of healing that any ordinary person can learn, without having to be psychic or possess any other weird and wonderful abilities. For purely physical health, I begin with the alkaline diet because I know from experience that it works and can have a profound affect on physical health.
After that, I move on to various forms of "spiritual healing" which are also effective and can be mastered by anyone. Most of them involve some form of meditation, ranging from visualisations to mantras and a form of affirmation. These techniques can be used for giving healing to yourself or to another person.
I also describe how to give a full session of hands-on healing to another person, as well as ways of utilising what could be called mind power.
If you acquaint yourself with the techniques described in this site, you can open yourself up to a whole world of healing you never knew existed. The best thing of all is that none of it depends on faith. You don't need faith for these techniques to work; all you need is an open mind. Neither do you need any particular gift or psychic abilities; I have restricted myself to forms of healing that anyone can learn.
ALKALINE DIET
The alkaline diet is based on the principle that food, when it is metabolised in the cells of the body, leaves what is known as an "ash", which is either acidic or alkaline. The theory proposes that an alkaline ash is conducive to good health and an acidic ash is conducive to bad health. The idea is that the diet should be 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods because it takes four parts alkaline to neutralise one part acid; 80% is four times 20%.
I first started to experiment with the alkaline diet several years ago and the results were startling. After six months, an old allergic reaction to certain grasses cleared up; whereas previously I would block up in the sinuses if I lay down on grass, suddenly, after six months, I found that I could lay down on grass without blocking up.
After seven months, my incipient arthritis was starting to ease up; where previously I had been getting pain in various places, after seven months these places felt stiff but not painful. After twelve months, even the stiffness was gone. Sinus trouble caused by allergic reactions to house dust and house mites also disappeared completely. I also found that my neck felt a lot looser than before, and did not make bloodcurdling cracks and crunches when I shook my head from side to side. In other words, results were remarkable (I should admit that I cheated to an extent by using various supplements, but more about that elsewhere).
Alkaline foods are generally vegetables, citrus fruits, soy and tap water (spring water is mildly acidic).
Acidic foods are more numerous and often include nourishing foods like grain, meats and fish, which is what makes it difficult to have an alkaline diet. Rubbishy "foods" like sugar are predictably acidic.

GOLDEN LIGHT
My total experience and intuition have convinced me that golden light is the healing meditation. Some clairvoyants have linked golden light with unconditional love and our link with divinity, and certainly my own experience has left me in no doubt that golden light represents the higher spiritual levels. Many healers like to work with different colours, but golden light takes the healing to a higher level. Swami Chidvilasananda, leader of Siddha Yoga, has said, "The threshold of reality is bathed in golden light."
The visualisation itself consists simply of visualising golden light coming down from the heavens and going into you or the patient. To a large extent, allow the light to develop its own shape. It may become a broad beam covering the whole body, or it may concentrate on the area being treated. Allow it to do this, but keep it golden. I have sometimes found it takes on the appearance of rain or a waterfall. Sometimes the light may even take on the form of a human being.
To use golden light for self-healing, sit or lay down, possibly with relaxing music on as long as it is not distracting. Visualise the heavens opening up and a beam of golden light pouring down on you. You can give healing to specific parts of the body if you have any particular physical problems, or you can direct the light to your chakras (energy centres in the body; see Mind Power for more information). Visualise the light going to each chakra one by one, starting with the crown chakra and working down to the base chakra. How long you spend on each chakra is largely a matter of intuition; in other words, do what feels right.
Sometimes this kind of healing can come of its own accord and take unexpected forms. As an example, I was in bed one night, still awake, when the idea of golden light suddenly popped into my head from nowhere. I took the hint and began to visualise a beam of golden light in front of me. It gradually moved closer to me until it came to my head. It then changed shape and began to look like a cap or lid as it moved up to my crown chakra. It fitted itself on top of the crown chakra like a cap and then slowly sank down through my body until it stopped at the base chakra. It stayed at the base chakra for some time, then turned into a purer, finer golden tone. This finer gold remained at the base chakra until I felt too tired to continue the visualisation.
It happened that, about a week before, a spiritual healer had said that I had a blockage in the base chakra. Apparently, then, the session with the golden light was aimed at clearing the blockage. The whole session was quite unplanned and unexpected.
As another example, there was a more planned session that came about because I had managed to do some damage to my heart chakra due to a whole host of factors. One day I decided to do some healing on the chakra, so I lay down and visualised golden light going into the chakra. Within a minute or two, the beam turned into a green light without any prompting on my part and then into a kind of green mist that poured down and spread over the chakra. The mist took on the most beautiful, rich green colouring imaginable and became as dense as a London fog. After a few minutes of this, the green fog cleared and revealed an image of my chest opened up as if for surgery. This image then gave way to vague but complex images conveying an impression of great activity talking place around the heart chakra. The impression created was like that of a team of surgeons at work. Eventually this gave way to an image of my chest in more or less normal condition, but raised slightly in the middle, like a pimple. This gave the impression that the chakra was more or less back to normal, although some healing remained to be done. The entire session had taken about twenty minutes.
Over the next few days, I found the ache in the chest had subsided substantially but not completely. Deciding to change tack, I decided to use the visualisation as a straight meditation, without worrying about the heart chakra. I would sit on a lounge chair and briefly visualise my guru, then see the heavens opening up and pouring golden light down on me. This had a strongly uplifting effect, which increased as I visualised the light going into my head. As the light went through my brain, I experienced a strong sensation of holiness and said a prayer for general healing. I would maintain the visualisation for up to twenty minutes, during which time the sense of holiness was quite pronounced and often made me feel that I had been touched by God. By the end of the meditation I would be saying, "Thank you God, thank you God" over and over. After practising this meditation for several days, the ache in my chest had cleared up completely.
This experience illustrates vividly some of the different ways that golden light can be used. I should say there were times when I tried using white light instead, but it kept turning into golden light of its own accord.
In using golden light, it is crucial to let the light do the work rather than for you to try to control what is going on. I have known people who used golden light, but who tried to direct and control it. The idea is simply to put the beam of light there and let it do the work, without trying to control it.
HEALING MANTRA
OM SHRI DHANVANTRE NAMAHA
(pr: Om Shree Dhahn-vahn-tray Nah-ma-hah)
I found this mantra in the excellent book, Shakti Mantras, by Thomas Ashley-Farrand. This mantra is associated with Dhanvantari, the physician to the gods and the person who was responsible for giving the nectar of immortality to the gods. It translates roughly as Om and salutations to Dhanvantari. (If you wonder why Dhanvantre is spelled differently from Dhanvantari, the explanation is simple: Sanskrit grammar.)
There are two ways this mantra can be used. The first is to shed light on any medical problem or similar situation where you are not certain of the best way to proceed. Repeated twice daily for twenty minutes or so, the mantra helps you get a better understanding of the problem and what you can do about it. It can even shed light on issues like whether a medical problem is physical or psychosomatic. I have used this mantra myself on several occasions and can attest to its effectiveness.
The other way to use this mantra is to enhance your effectiveness as a therapist if you happen to be one. The use of the mantra will give you a better perspective on things you can do to improve your performance as a healer.
HEALING AFFIRMATION
This technique came to me right out of the blue, when the subject of healing was not in my head at all. Suddenly it occurred to me, unbidden, that the way to get healing is to give thanks for having been healed as if you have already been healed. The way to do this is to utilise a very simple affirmation along the lines of: Thank you God for healing me. If you are not keen on God, use you can say Universe or the name of your spiritual teacher or guru if you have one, or anything else that you relate to. The technique is infinitely flexible and gives you plenty of scope to adapt it to your own belief system or outlook on life.
The beauty of this healing technique is that it can be used for emotional issues as well as physical. For example, anyone with a serious burden of guilt could receive emotional healing by saying Thank you God for forgiving me. Anyone with a serious fear issue could say Thank you God for healing my fear. And so on.
On one occasion, when I was using this affirmation in a very intensive way, I found myself experiencing the sense that I was in a state of mind where magic and alchemy take place. May you too have the experience of that state of mind.
HANDS-ON HEALING
Hands-on healing is, as you might expect, healing that involves touching the patient directly. It has a long and noble history. In more religious settings, it is often described as the laying-on of hands, but it does not necessarily require religious trappings. There are many modern versions of hands-on healing, including Reiki, Chiron healing and various others. Religion is largely optional; as I said before, faith is not required, although it probably helps. It is also not necessary to have a "gift", although it will help.
For present purposes, I will divide hands-on healing into short treatments and long treatments, while also touching on some related subjects. The methods I outline here are, of course, merely suggestions which can serve as useful starting points for anyone who has no experience in these things. As you gain more experience, you might want to modify your approach.
CHAKRAS
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel, and the chakras are seven energy centres in the body, which start at the base of the trunk and go up to the crown of the head. They are often used in spiritual healing and can be used in the kind of healing I describe below. They are:
1. Base chakra: concerned with basic survival, usually described as being located at the base of the spine, but this is rather coy; it is actually between the genitals and the anus
2. Sacral chakra: located a few inches below the navel, and concerned with relationships and sex drive
3. Solar plexus chakra: the emotional centre
4. Heart chakra: in the middle of the chest, concerned with compassion and the potential for universal love
5. Throat chakra: located, as you might imagine, in the throat, concerned with speech and self-expression, sometimes associated with clairaudience
6. Third eye chakra: in the middle of the brow, concerned with vision, intuition and spiritual perception, sometimes associated with clairvoyance
7. Crown chakra: on top of the head, associated with Higher Self and the highest levels of spiritual attainment
If you are reasonably psychic, you may feel chakras or even get a visual impression of them, but this is not essential for the kind of healing described here, although you are likely to feel changes taking place in chakras as you hold your hands over them. It is quite common to feel a sensation like a flow of cool air through chakras during a treatment, even if you are not especially psychic. Cool air is generally a good sign.
SHORT TREATMENTS
The simplest way to do a short treatment on someone is for them to sit on a chair while you stand behind them or perhaps to the side. Put your hands on their shoulders; if you like, say a little prayer for them to receive the healing that is appropriate for them at that time. Visualise golden light (some people prefer white) pouring down into you, out your hands and into them. If your hands feel like moving to a different position on the person, let them. Keep this up for as long as you like. After the treatment, shake your hands vigorously and visualise violet light going through you (violet is the cleansing colour).
LONG TREATMENTS
For a long treatment, the person should lay down on a massage table. You, as practitioner, should have a light office chair on wheels that can move along smoothly. If you are right-handed, place the chair on the patient's left so you can work from that side. You might like to put relaxing music on (Spectrum Suite by Stephen Halpern is very good for this purpose).
1. Stand at the head of the massage table with your hands lightly on the patient's shoulders. If you like, say a little prayer for the patient to receive healing.
2. To ground yourself, visualise roots growing from your feet and reaching down to the centre of the earth. Feel yourself connected to the centre of the earth.
3. Visualise blue light coming down and wrapping itself around you in a protective cocoon. This is to protect you from any negative energies.
4. Sitting on the chair, put your right hand on the patient's crown chakra and your left hand over their third eye chakra. Visualise golden light coming down into the patient. Maintain this position for five to ten minutes or whatever feels right.
5. Move your right hand to the third eye chakra and the left to the throat chakra, still visualising golden light going into the patient. Again, maintain this for five to ten minutes or whatever feels right.
6. Move your right hand to the throat chakra and the left to the heart chakra in the middle of the chest.
7. When ready, move your right hand to the heart chakra and the left to the solar plexus.
8. Move the right hand to the solar plexus and the left to the second chakra, located below the navel.
9. Move the right hand to the second chakra and the left to a position about a foot below the base chakra, with the palm facing the base chakra. Maintain this until you feel the treatment is complete enough.
10. Go to the bottom end of the table and place your hands on the soles of the patient's feet, letting the energy flow for as long as feels right. If the patient has the same handedness as you, your right hand can go to their left foot and your left hand to the other foot. If the patient has the opposite handedness to you, cross your arms over so that your right hand goes to their right foot and your left hand to their left foot.
11. Tell the patient to sit up slowly. Discuss the treatment with them. If any impressions came to you during the treatment, tell them about what you picked up. (I have found that people like the healer to pick things up and tell them something about themselves. If you are psychic and can tell people lots about themselves, you will be more in demand.)
12. After the treatment, wash your hands and forearms in cold water, then shake the water off. As you do so, visualise violet light going down through your body and chakras, cleansing you.
As a general principle, don't heal on days when you feel "spaced out". If you can't get out of it, ground yourself by going for a vigorous walk in bare feet, feeling your energy going down into the ground.
REIKI
One simple way to learn hands-on healing is to do Reiki, a hands-on healing system that originated in Japan (although other versions have come to light that allegedly originated in Tibet). There are three basic levels in Reiki. In the first, you get four attunements that are supposed to make you a better channel for the energy. In the second, you get some more attunements plus a few symbols that are supposed to enhance the energy and also enable you to send Reiki to someone at a distance. In the third level, you become a master/teacher.
Given that anyone can do hands-on healing whether they have done Reiki or not, it is difficult to tell how much difference the Reiki attunements make. In feedback I received, the general consensus was that the energy seemed to be stronger after I did Reiki II. Some people say they became psychic after they did Reiki II, although it isn't guaranteed (it didn't happen in my case).
Don't do Reiki in the expectation of making a living out of it; there is simply no demand for it. In fact, you can't give it away. The only way to make money out of Reiki is by teaching it. In this respect, it is almost like pyramid selling: the only way to get your money back is to rope other people in. However, if you want to do this kind of healing, or are already doing it, Reiki may help, as long as you don't expect too much.
DISTANT HEALING
Distant healing is, as you might expect, the process of sending healing to someone who is at a distance from oneself. It is fundamentally simple and is based on the elementary proposition that healing energy, whatever it is composed of, does not rely on direct contact to be effective.
To begin a session of distant healing, sit down, make yourself comfortable and relax. You might like to start by saying a little prayer for healing to go to the person you want to help. Say, Thank you God for helping this person. Then visualise that person. If they have a particular physical problem or disability, visualise them doing whatever it is they normally cannot do. If they cannot walk, visualise them walking, and so on.
Visualise them looking healthy and happy, and put golden light around them if you can.
Keep this up for ten minutes or even twenty minutes if you can. How long you can do it for depends largely on whether you are the visual type or not. If you are, you will probably be able to do a fair amount of visualisation without fatigue or stress. If you are not, you will probably find that ten minutes is enough for you. Ten minutes, in any case, is adequate for a healing session like this.
When you are finished, say again, Thank you God for healing this person. You should find yourself feeling good after a session of distant healing. If you feel drained, you are trying too hard. In spiritual healing, you should always feel good after a session.
MIND POWER
The possibility that the mind has a great deal of power that we may not be using is an idea that has been around for a long time, and one which many of us feel instinctively must have some truth to it. One of the earliest attempts at utilising and controlling the power of the mind was the form of positive thinking advocated by the Frenchman Emile Coue. The latter suggested the repetition of "Every day in every way I'm getting better and better," reasoning that we all tend to react emotionally to our thoughts, so therefore we should make a point of having positive thoughts.
A lot of work has been done more recently in the form of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), which is based on understanding how the brain works and taking the process in hand. The medical profession, on the other hand, has never shown much interest in mind power, tending to dismiss it as "placebo." It never seemed to occur to them that if this placebo can do what they say it can do, it might be worth looking into it to see if we can make use of it instead of merely dismissing it.
My own experience of mind power has been relatively tangental, for the simple reason that, for over forty years, I have been on one of those spiritual paths that rule out any attempt to cultivate power of any kind. However, I have, over the years, learned a thing or two about how mind power can affect healing, so I will pass on what I have learned.
The first thing I learned about this subject was something that seems relatively trivial at first glance, namely how we can talk ourselves into getting a cold. When I was younger, I used to get a lot of "head colds," which meant mainly congestion, sniffles etc in the head, without any symptoms in the throat or chest. In short, it was all above the chin. Then, one dark and stormy night when I was in my early twenties, I noticed how I seemed to talk myself into getting these colds. In other words, if I felt a draught, for example, which momentarily gave me the sniffles, I would think, "I'm getting a cold," and would promptly get one of my head colds. Having noticed this, I began to observe the process, noting the thoughts that would come if I were exposed to a draught, and making sure I let go of them. In effect, it was an exercise in mindfulness or self-observation. The result was that I stopped getting head colds.
In a similar development, I decided to try this form of mindfulness on those annoying tickles in the throat that we all get from time to time. Invariably, when this happens, we try to cough it out, but it never works. So, I tried the mindfulness, focusing my attention on the sensation in the throat without trying to cough it out or get rid of it in any way. What happened then was that the tickle would well up until I felt like I was going to choke, my eyes would water and my nose would run, then the tickle in the throat would simply go away. In other words, I got rid of it by not trying to get rid of it.
This was by no means the end of my colds, however. I would still get a cold every winter, like most people do, and I learned to keep them in check by inhaling clove oil or black pepper oil. One night, however, I forgot to take the oil with me, so I decided to try a bit of mind power. I proceeded to psych myself into the attitude "I don't get colds." This involved a different kind of mind power, in which I was using the imagination. In effect, I was playing the role of someone who never gets colds; as a result, I stopped getting them.
This worked so well that I had no colds for several years. Finally, many moons later, I got a cold after exposure to the air-conditioning at the movies. This time, the attitude "I don't get colds" was not enough, although it kept the cold under control so that it never became a "bad" cold (a bad cold being a cold that makes you feel bad enough to go to bed). The cold lasted two weeks, but even after it cleared up I still got symptoms like a sore throat very easily if I felt the slightest draught. As a result of this, I decided to try the mindfulness again, focusing my attention on the symptoms -- soreness in the throat or nostrils -- without trying to get rid of them or react to them in any way. Again, I found that the symptoms simply disappeared when I focused my attention on them, just as the tickle in the throat had disappeared (although without the welling up and watery eyes).
The reason for this seems to be that, by getting rid of the normal thoughts and attitudes, we allow the body to heal itself without the usual mental and emotional reactions getting in the way.
From my experience, then, I can delineate three main ways of using the power of the mind on illness:
1. Self-observation, watching your thoughts and feelings to make sure you do not "talk yourself into" getting sick.
2. Using the imagination to play the role of someone who does not get sick (note that this is an act of the imagination, not so-called willpower).
3. Focusing awareness on the symptoms, which allows the body to heal itself without the normal reactions interfering.
Try experimenting with these techniques. Their potential is unlimited.
GETTING TREATMENTS
I make no claim to any
special psychic or healing gifts, but I have been practising these forms of
healing for over twenty years and can affirm that they work. The first hands-on
treatment I did was on a friend who had MS. She lent me a book on spiritual
healing and I did my first treatment on her. The next day, she looked and felt
better; thereafter, she always felt better for having a weekly treatment. She
would have been better still if she had persisted with the treatments in the
long run, but we drifted apart.
Another beneficiary was a
nurse who had had hepatitis some time before and still felt rundown. Tests
showed that her liver was not normal. She too felt better after the first
treatment and continued to feel better. After a series of treatments, she had
her liver tested again and it was back to normal.
By now I have done hundreds
of hands-on treatments and I know they can be effective with a range of physical
problems, and especially with pain. It usually takes a series of treatments to
get the best results. Naturally, you can also
complement the hands-on treatments with the various healing meditations
described on the other pages. I can advise you on how to use these methods,
which are often more important than the hands-on treatments.
I work in Sydney. If you live
around Sydney and would like a treatment, ring me: 9662 8913
Or email me: neil667@hotmail.com
Treatments are by any donation, large or small, or free for the poor.
