HANDS-ON HEALING
Hands-on healing is, as you might expect, healing that involves touching the patient directly. It has a long and noble history. In more religious settings, it is often described as the laying-on of hands, but it does not necessarily require religious trappings. There are many modern versions of hands-on healing, including Reiki, Chiron healing and various others. Religion is largely optional; as I said before, faith is not required, although it probably helps. It is also not necessary to have a "gift", although it will help.
For present purposes, I will divide hands-on healing into short treatments and long treatments, while also touching on some related subjects. The methods I outline here are, of course, merely suggestions which can serve as useful starting points for anyone who has no experience in these things. As you gain more experience, you might want to modify your approach.
CHAKRAS
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel, and the chakras are seven energy centres in the body, which start at the base of the trunk and go up to the crown of the head. They are often used in spiritual healing and can be used in the kind of healing I describe below. They are:
1. Base chakra: concerned with basic survival, usually described as being located at the base of the spine, but this is rather coy; it is actually between the genitals and the anus
2. Sacral chakra: located a few inches below the navel, and concerned with relationships and sex drive
3. Solar plexus chakra: the emotional centre
4. Heart chakra: in the middle of the chest, concerned with compassion and the potential for universal love
5. Throat chakra: located, as you might imagine, in the throat, concerned with speech and self-expression, sometimes associated with clairaudience
6. Third eye chakra: in the middle of the brow, concerned with vision, intuition and spiritual perception, sometimes associated with clairvoyance
7. Crown chakra: on top of the head, associated with Higher Self and the highest levels of spiritual attainment
If you are reasonably psychic, you may feel chakras or even get a visual impression of them, but this is not essential for the kind of healing described here, although you are likely to feel changes taking place in chakras as you hold your hands over them. It is quite common to feel a sensation like a flow of cool air through chakras during a treatment, even if you are not especially psychic. Cool air is generally a good sign.
SHORT TREATMENTS
The simplest way to do a short treatment on someone is for them to sit on a chair while you stand behind them or perhaps to the side. Put your hands on their shoulders; if you like, say a little prayer for them to receive the healing that is appropriate for them at that time. Visualise golden light (some people prefer white) pouring down into you, out your hands and into them. If your hands feel like moving to a different position on the person, let them. Keep this up for as long as you like. After the treatment, shake your hands vigorously and visualise violet light going through you (violet is the cleansing colour).
LONG TREATMENTS
For a long treatment, the person should lay down on a massage table. You, as practitioner, should have a light office chair on wheels that can move along smoothly. If you are right-handed, place the chair on the patient's left so you can work from that side. You might like to put relaxing music on (Spectrum Suite by Stephen Halpern is very good for this purpose).
1. Stand at the head of the massage table with your hands lightly on the patient's shoulders. If you like, say a little prayer for the patient to receive healing.
2. To ground yourself, visualise roots growing from your feet and reaching down to the centre of the earth. Feel yourself connected to the centre of the earth.
3. Visualise blue light coming down and wrapping itself around you in a protective cocoon. This is to protect you from any negative energies.
4. Sitting on the chair, put your right hand on the patient's crown chakra and your left hand over their third eye chakra. Visualise golden light coming down into the patient. Maintain this position for five to ten minutes or whatever feels right.
5. Move your right hand to the third eye chakra and the left to the throat chakra, still visualising golden light going into the patient. Again, maintain this for five to ten minutes or whatever feels right.
6. Move your right hand to the throat chakra and the left to the heart chakra in the middle of the chest.
7. When ready, move your right hand to the heart chakra and the left to the solar plexus.
8. Move the right hand to the solar plexus and the left to the second chakra, located below the navel.
9. Move the right hand to the second chakra and the left to a position about a foot below the base chakra, with the palm facing the base chakra. Maintain this until you feel the treatment is complete enough.
10. Go to the bottom end of the table and place your hands on the soles of the patient's feet, letting the energy flow for as long as feels right. If the patient has the same handedness as you, your right hand can go to their left foot and your left hand to the other foot. If the patient has the opposite handedness to you, cross your arms over so that your right hand goes to their right foot and your left hand to their left foot.
11. Tell the patient to sit up slowly. Discuss the treatment with them. If any impressions came to you during the treatment, tell them about what you picked up. (I have found that people like the healer to pick things up and tell them something about themselves. If you are psychic and can tell people lots about themselves, you will be more in demand.)
12. After the treatment, wash your hands and forearms in cold water, then shake the water off. As you do so, visualise violet light going down through your body and chakras, cleansing you.
As a general principle, don't heal on days when you feel "spaced out". If you can't get out of it, ground yourself by going for a vigorous walk in bare feet, feeling your energy going down into the ground.
REIKI
One simple way to learn hands-on healing is to do Reiki, a hands-on healing system that originated in Japan (although other versions have come to light that allegedly originated in Tibet). There are three basic levels in Reiki. In the first, you get four attunements that are supposed to make you a better channel for the energy. In the second, you get some more attunements plus a few symbols that are supposed to enhance the energy and also enable you to send Reiki to someone at a distance. In the third level, you become a master/teacher.
Given that anyone can do hands-on healing whether they have done Reiki or not, it is difficult to tell how much difference the Reiki attunements make. In feedback I received, the general consensus was that the energy seemed to be stronger after I did Reiki II. Some people say they became psychic after they did Reiki II, although it isn't guaranteed (it didn't happen in my case).
Don't do Reiki in the expectation of making a living out of it; there is simply no demand for it. In fact, you can't give it away. The only way to make money out of Reiki is by teaching it. In this respect, it is almost like pyramid selling: the only way to get your money back is to rope other people in. However, if you want to do this kind of healing, or are already doing it, Reiki may help, as long as you don't expect too much.
